Finally Free
It’s time to go,
The soldiers are coming to take us home.
Everyone’s so happy.
We’re finally going home.
I want to tell mama and papa,
But they’ve been gone for a week now.
I ask my aunt,
“Where’s mama and papa?”
She doesn’t know.
The soldiers push and kick us,
But we’re still happy to go home.
“Where are we going, auntie?”
The soldiers are not taking us to the train.
Instead, we’re going to a building.
“Take off your clothes.”
Why do we need to take off our clothes?
“Don’t worry, it’s just a shower.”
My aunt says.
They push us in a room.
I don’t understand.
There are no showers here.
They locked the door.
Everyone is pushing and screaming.
What’s going on?
Auntie fell and she can’t get up.
What’s happening?
Aren’t we going home?
I can’t breathe.
I can’t see.
I feel like I’m falling.
We aren’t going home after all.
But we’re finally free.
